Prairie zinnia is one of the best perennial ground-covers for higher elevations in Southern Nevada and the Vegas valley. Its normal range is on arid hillsides and mesas throughout much of the Southwest at elevations from 2000 to 6000 feet.  For Las Vegas, this means that the higher parts of the valley is idea for this prolific bloomer. It handles full sun, reflected heat, and rocky soils like a champ, however be careful not to overwater. Individual plants are
long-lived, and can reseed to expand the population. Deer and rabbits usually avoid Prairie zinnia.
