This evergreen shrub is native to the rocky slopes of southeastern Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Mexico at elevations from 2000 to 5000 feet. The dark green, rounded compound leaves have thick waxy leaflets. Clusters of white flowers in the spring are followed by showy red berries. Plant in full sun to part shade and in well-drained soils.
