Hill Country Penstemon is a beautiful variety that shoots up flower spikes in early spring. Native to Texas it is one of the first Penstemons to bloom. Hummingbirds love it’s tall spikes of deep pink tubular flowers. After it blooms, you can cut back the stalks to clean up the plant so the foliage looks tighter. Good drainage is a must for this and almost all other penstemons. Its glossy green leaves and compact form make it a great foreground plant for some of the taller varieties.
